NETWORKING / IT APPLICATIONS ENGINEER PALO ALTO, CA Position Announcement # 3928 March 2, 2004 The Electronics Research Laboratory has an opening for a Networking / IT Applications Engineer. This charge back position will be based in Palo Alto, California, and reports to Dr. Klaus Schaaf, Human Machine Interface Process Team Leader. This is a Band 5 position. POSITION SUMMARY: This position will identify, create, and assist in research projects that require wire based and wireless networking and IT solutions in and out of vehicles. This position will support the entire global mix of VW brands, engineering teams and related partners. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: * Identify the hardware and software for different networking needs for new projects * Be the laboratory's resource for know how regarding wireless and wire bound networking techniques (Bluetooth, 802.11x, Ultrawideband, Ethernet, USB 2.0, Firewire etc.) * Support the IT backbone of the Lab * Build up prototypes for use in internal or external networks * Support VW Group development activities on a limited basis REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education Bachelor or Master of Science in Engineering Experience 1 - 3 years experience in related areas of expertise 1 year of experience in the automotive industry (or equivalent) Unique Skills Proficiency in wireless networking technologies (Bluetooth, 802.11 x, etc.) Proficiency in wire bound networking technologies (USB, Firewire, Ethernet etc.) Proficiency in automotive bus systems (CAN, LIN, MOST) Real Time Operating Systems (QNX, Linux etc.) Know how of Embedded Systems is a plus Bus Systems (Firewire, USB, Ethernet) Rapid prototyping abilities Flexible attitude towards customers and suppliers Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills Motivated, self-directed team player, self-starter with positive attitude and strong work ethic Vision for future electronics Competencies Focuses on customer service Supports continuous improvements Aligns needs with solutions Demonstrates organizational acumen Leverages networks Communicates effectively Demonstrates and shares professional/functional expertise Demonstrates systemic thinking Shows commitment to quality Plans and organizes Prioritizes Gathers information Demonstrates self-improvement orientation Accomplishes goals Analyzes critical data Uses computer/technical systems Multi-tasks Maintains focus Displays professional integrity Analyzes problems DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Unique Skills High level of creativity and innovation Automotive Bus Systems APPLICATION PROCESS: If you are a Regular Full Time Employee of Volkswagen of America please click on the following Link and submit your application through the Applicant Tracking System.
