How to undelete a file -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Information in this Brief applies to: StarTeam 3.x, 4.x, 5.x Windows Platforms -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview Sometimes a file may be deleted in error. If you attempt to add it back into the project/view, the history is lost. You can avoid loosing the file history by using a file sharing workaround which will be described in more detail. If file deletions are a frequent problem for your team you may want to consider the Access Rights feature to limit the team members who are permitted to delete files. Details 1. From within the StarTeam client, open the project/view where the file was deleted. 2. For a second time select to open the same project/view. You should now have 2 windows with the same view. 3. Go to the Window->Tile Horizontally menu option. 4. Select one of the project/view windows. 5. Go to the View->Select Configuration menu option. 6. Set the radio button for "Select Configuration as of" and select a date and time just prior to the file deletion. 7. You should now have one window with the file missing and the other window with the file present. 8. Within the window where the file exists and the configuration is not current, highlight the file and hold down the CTRL key. Holding down the CTRL key drag the file to the window where the file is missing. Drag the file to a folder other than the folder where the file was deleted. (StarTeam will not permit you to share the file to the folder where it originally existed. You will be able to later move the file to the desired folder. 9. A dialog window will appear, asking if you wish to share the file. Respond with a yes. 10. Highlight the shared file and right click. 11. Select the menu option Advanced->Behavior. 12. Select the Configuration tab and set the radio button for a Floating configuration. 13. Highlight the file and drag to the original folder. 14. If needed, re-label, link and recreate shares for this file.
